SAPTATI CELEBRATIONS

It has been 70 years since the birth of Sree Kerala Varma College, an occasion worthy of remembrance and celebration. To celebrate and honour such a momentous occasion, the college community unanimously decided to make the Saptati celebrations a three day (11,12 and 13 August 2017) memorable event with several cultural and academic activities.

The three-day long colourful magnum opus witnessed a coming together of various generations of faculty, staff, students, alumni and well wishers of the college.

Cochin Devaswom Board, the management of the college supported Saptati in all possible ways and gave valuable suggestions from time to time during the planning of celebrations.

Day 1:11 August 2017

The day began with honouring and remembering Sri. Hon.Rama Varma Thampuran. The principal and staff, representatives of the Cochin Devaswom Board and students along with former members of the SKVC family offered flowers at the newly renovated Smritimandapam  of His Highness Sri. Rama Varma Thampuran. This was followed by the inaugural ceremony, followed by Samadaram,  an honouring of noted members of the SKVC family who later on went on to prove their mettle in various fields. 

The formal event of the morning gave way to a cultural extravaganza arranged by students and later to a mesmerising musical fiesta led by noted singer Pradeep Somasundaram. The entire music troupe comprised alumni of SKVC. 

Day 2: 12 August 2017

The Second Day of Saptati Celebrations witnessed a second edition of Samadaram, where various noted personalities in the field of science, arts, education, politics and so on were honoured. The entire SKVC family took pride in the fact that all these personalities were a part of SKVC during their student lives or teaching/non teaching careers. The morning session came to a close with the release and distribution of a package of 7 outstanding softwares prepared by K Sathyaseelan for the benefit of the visually challenged community.

The afternoon was dedicated to old students-teachers meet, one of the largest confluence that SKVC has witnessed in a long time. Various alumni of the college took to the stage and enthralled the audience with their performances

Day 3: 13 August 2017

The morning session of Day 3 was dedicated to a Seminar on Higher Education: Contemporary Challenges. Hon. Education Minister of Kerala, Prof. C. Raveendranath inaugurated the session. Dr. P.V Krishnan Nair presided over the function. This was followed by a symosium on Kerala Varma: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. The afternoon session saw a Kaviyarangu, where gifted and celebrated poets presented their poems. The Cultural Meet that followed the Kaviyarangu was inaugurated by Sri. John Britas, Managing Director, Kairali T.V, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister. Various famous personalities from T.V and Cinema who have had long associations with Sree Kerala Varma as students, teachers and staff spoke on their life in SKVC.

Theyyam performance brought down the curtains on the three day extravaganza.
