In order to promote minor and major research by the faculty, Sree Kerala Varma College has established a Research Promotion Cell (RPC). The objective of the RPC is to encourage the staff community to explore research possibilities: undertake research, present papers and publish articles, identify research opportunities and funding resources, to evaluate, guide, and monitor research projects.

An IRB (Institutional Review Board) consisting of members From Languages, Humanities and Science receives research proposals from the faculty, examines its viability, methodological rigor, and ethical compliance, and advises the Principal on its approval.

Around 40 teachers of various departments hold Ph.D degree. Seven faculty members have post-doctoral research experience. Three departments- Department of Malayalam, Department of English, and Department of Political Science- has been upgraded as research departments under University of Calicut. Total of Six faculty members of Department of Political Science, Department of English, and Department of English serves as research guides. Department of Physics and Department of Economics are in the process of upgrading as research departments. Faculty members are encouraged to take up research projects, both major and minor, that is relevant to the society. Some of the faculty members has initiated and completed post-doctoral research in their own specialized areas.
